Why Pilates?
What is Pilates?
The Pilates Method was originally referred to as Mind Body Contrology, by its innovator Joseph H. Pilates. The system of precise movement employs a combination of equipment using spring resistance, barrels and other small accessories. Pilates exercises are also used to develop:
- Core stabilization
- Strength
- Flexibility
- Coordination
- Mental Focus
Pilates includes an emphasis on focused breathing associated with activating the deep trunk musculature. The result is heightened awareness of posture, improved efficiency of movement and increased energy that can carry you throughout your day.
Pilates can:
- Be practiced as a sole physical discipline or as an adjunct to other forms of exercise.
- Assist in restoring movement and diminishing pain with injuries.
- Minimize risk for injury.
- Improve performance in sports and functional activities.
